What have you done for children 0-5 today?
Arizona's children can and will enter school healthy, ready to learn and ready to fulfill their greatest potential if all Arizonans accept responsibility for this result for all children. Every adult in Arizona can help make this a reality for young children - through acts - large and small. Every contribution counts.
As a parent, grandparent or guardian:
- Read to children. Every day. Then, have them read to you.
- Take children to health care providers for wellness checks, early screenings, and immunizations.
- Provide a healthy diet for your children
- Learn what to look for and what to expect from your child care or preschool provider - what does high quality look like - and choose the best for your child.
In your community:
- Volunteer at a local early childhood education program or school
- Participate in community meetings to plan the local improvements for early childhood development and health
- Support the efforts of early childhood professionals in enhancing their own education and skills
- Talk with business owners about the importance of early childhood development and health and the impact on their future ability to have an educated and effective work force. Encourage them to become involved locally.
As a public official:
- At the city, county and state level, public officials (elected or appointed) can ensure the policies they develop support the best, quality environment for young children to grow, learn and be healthy.
- Provide leadership at the state and local level to engage the broader community including business, faith-based organizations, human service providers and school systems in addressing the needs of Arizona's youngest children
